Old Fort Music was started in 1986, at the log cabins next to the river, by the Mountain Gateway Museum. Some of the founding members were; J.D. McCormick, Gene Padgett, Grover Sutton, Luke & Hanley Medford, J.C. Nave, Harley Walker, Max Woody, Ronnie Rawls, Warren Sutton and Glenn Bowman. Most are now deceased but they have left a great and rich heritage which is still going strong in the small town of Old Fort. They have never missed a Friday night, even during the great blizzard they came in to open the doors, even though no one could even get on the roads. It has been said that even the popular Dixie Chicks once stopped in here and played long before they were the superstars of today. Music has continued to draw large crowds to the small town of Old Fort every Friday night.
